Mother Betty L. (McGhee) Terry, daughter of the late Rufus McGhee, Sr. and Gertrude McGhee, was born on February 27, 1938, in Warm Springs, Georgia.She accepted Christ at an early age and remained a faithful and devoted member of Leverette Hill Baptist Church until her transition. Throughout her years of service, she held many roles within the church, including Youth Choir Advisor, Sunday School Teacher, and President of the Missionary Ministry. She was also actively involved in her community and served with dedication in the Talbot County High School Band Booster Club.
Mother Terry was united in holy matrimony to the late Samuel F. Terry, and to this union, seven children were born. She was a lovingand devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
On May 1, 2026, Mother Terry peacefully transitioned from this life, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jimmie McGhee and Rufus McGhee; two sisters-in-law, Lillie Ree McGhee and Rhudine McGhee; two brothers-in-law, Booker Jerry and Tom Terry; and one stepdaughter, Ann Marie Terry.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories a loving and devoted family, including her seven children: Edward Terry of Chamblee, GA; James (Shirley) Terry of Woodland, GA; Michael (Mershell) Terry of Lawrenceville, GA; Samuel (Cynthia) Terry of Lithonia, GA; Donald (Tammy) Terry of Savannah, GA; Cynthia (John) Heyward of Suwanee, GA; and Linda Terry (Alfred Brown) of Snellville, GA. She is also survived by one sister, Lena Jerry; two brothers, Thomas McGhee and Frank (Cheri) McGhee; one sister-in-law, Bernice Hough; one brother-in-law, James (Shirley) Terry and adopted sister Dr. Ola Mae Brown. Her legacy continues through her thirteen grandchildren with one preceding her in death, thirteen great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, and one great-great-grandson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friend.
