“For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”. ~~~~ 2 nd Timothy 4: 6-8
Bruce Anthony Harvey, a native of Woodland, Georgia, was born on January 21, 1957, to the late Deacon Eugene Harvey and Deaconess Annie Bell Harvey. He joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend R. T. Stevenson. Bruce loved the Lord and he loved praying, which he did regularly. As a member of the choir, he was often heard quietly singing: Glory, Glory Hallelujah, one of his favorite songs. He had a sweet, sweet spirit.
He attended the Shiloh Training School, later named the Hamilton Training School, where he met many friends. After relocating to Newnan, Georgia, he attended the Rutledge School.
Some of the many activities Bruce enjoyed were: Atlanta Braves Baseball, bowling and family gatherings. He loved being at the ballpark watching Chipper Jones, his favorite player, hit home runs. He often won the top prize of bowlers in his class. However, one of the biggest moments in his life came when he was able to compete in the Special Summer Olympics in Metro Atlanta. He had much fun as the family cheered his participation. Family reunions were always great as he took to the dance floor with siblings, nieces and nephews to dance the night away. We will miss his hugs, his kisses and his laughter.
As his purpose on earth ended September 30, 2020, he leaves to cherish his memory nine siblings. Rubye Hardnett, Woodland, GA, Dora Harvey Mitchell, Atlanta, GA, Henry Gene (Pat) Harvey, Newnan, GA, Robert (Clara) Harvey, Los Angeles, CA, Perry (Joyce) Harvey, Manchester, GA, Lillie Amos, Los Angeles, CA, Bernice Parker, Woodland, GA, Gloria Ann (Oscar) Hardnett, Fayetteville, GA, Larry (Mary Ann) Harvey, Woodland, GA; one adopted brother Leroy (Erica) Grant, College Park, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends. Brother Sammy Thomas Harvey preceded him in death.
