Ms. Dorothy Virginia Harris

Dorothy Virginia Harris, affectionately known as “Dot” entered this world on May 17th, 1945, in Manchester, Georgia to the late Ms. Edith Owens and Mr. Will Milling. She was a product of the Meriwether County Training School graduate of Class of 1963. It was during her early years that she found solace and purpose of her faith. She joined the New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester, Georgia where she served faithfully as a member of the choir and on the kitchen ministry.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Reverend Ed Harris, the love of her life. Together they welcomed two wonderful children into their lives, Vincent and Pamela, who brought immense happiness and meaning to this world. Dot was employed by the Meriwether County Schools at Mountain View Elementary School where she applied her cooking skills with dedication and passion until retirement. She embraced her life fully. Dorothy loved spending time with her family and she enjoyed her time at the Manchester Senior Center and her lunch dates at the Bulloch House with her friends.

On Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, Dot one of God’s faithful servants was called to eternal rest. Quietly and peacefully she accepted her wings leaving behind a legacy of love, friendship, and laughter. She was preceded in death by her husband the late Reverend Ed Harris; her parents Edith Owens and Will Milling.

She leaves to cherish her memories, son Mr. Vincent (Cynthia) Harris, Sr of Maryland; daughter Pamela (Rodney) Hester of Byron; Grandchildren: Vincent Harris, Jr and Ja’Dore Hester; Sisters-in-love: Helen Harris and Rosa Redwine. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her dearly.
