Emma Lizzie Copeland

September 30, 1920 — January 19, 2020

Emma Lizzie Harris Copeland was born on September 30, 1920 in Talbot County Georgia to the late John William Harris and Abbie Lenoir Crawl Harris.  Within her family, she had two sisters, and seven brothers.  At an early age, she attended the Talbot School District.

Emma Copeland was a blessed woman of God.  At an early age, she joined the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Spark where she was a dedicated member until her death.  She was a Deaconess and a beloved Church Mother.

Emma was dedicated to family, and full of compassion for anyone that she met.  She was a housewife who enjoyed cooking, and most of all taking care of the needs of her family and others.  Anyone that she met was touched by her kindness.  Not only a mother to her own children, but she was a mother figure to her nieces, nephews, and many others through her journey in life. She leaves behind a legacy of love and a gentle spirit.

On January 1, 1938, she joined hands in holy matrimony to her husband of 52 years,  Glenn Copeland, who preceded her in death on November 16, 1990.  They were blessed with twelve children; two of whom preceded her in death, Eddie Lee Copeland and Larry Copeland.  She leaves to cherish her memories six daughters and four sons; Dorothy M. Copeland of College Park, GA; Annette Copeland-Belk, Annie L. Copeland, and Angela C. Copeland of Woodland, GA; Charlie G. Copeland (Evelyn) of Riverdale, GA; Calvin Copeland (Shirley) of Stockbridge, GA; Mrs. Patricia A. Taylor (Lamar) of Fairburn, GA; Mrs. Mary L. Taylor of Columbus, GA; Roger Copeland (Labrentha) of Fairburn, GA; Chester L. Copeland (Pennie) of Waverly Hall, GA; a daughter-in-law Sherry Ann Copeland of College Park, GA.; a Sister-in-law Mattie R. Terry of Brookhaven, GA; three Brother-in-laws James Copeland of Pennsylvania;  Clyde Copeland (Sarah) and Zannie Copeland (Patricia) of Warm Springs.  She is also mourned by fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
